Grosvenor Cottages

Grosvenor Cottages is a cobbled cul-de-sac entered through an attractive entrance from the west side of Eaton Terrace. There is a row of mainly stucco-faced 2-bedroom cottages, some double-fronted. At the far end there is a wide 3-bedroom house with a delightful gated entrance and an attractive patio.

On either side of the gate are attractive stone statues of mythical animals mounted on columns and mixed in with a group of trees on the north side, which work together very well. Grosvenor Studios on the north side also has an attractive gated entrance.

Just as you enter the mews there is a sign dated February 1893 warning drivers of heavy vehicles to be careful because there are cellars under the road near the back walls of the houses.

The street takes its name from The Grosvenor family. Belgravia is part of the Grosvenor Estate which also includes much of Mayfair.

One version of the name story is that the family were descended from one of William the Conqueror's nephews, whose nick-name was 'the Great Hunter' or, in French, 'Gros Veneur' - Grosvenor.
